"The Wing"

Sometimes you just keep working on something and it is just not doing it for you. That is how I felt about this side panel. With the lowered seating position, and in order to house the battery under it, it had to come out so far that it interfered with your leg when you put your feet down to stop.

It didn't seem to matter what I did or changed it did not work and I hated the looks of it. The idea was to build something that complimented the side panel with aspects of the tank. So it was time to just cut it all off an start again. I couldn't help but hear Tims voice in my head "don't make it look like a Ninja" and so out with the crap and onto something new.

Now I felt better about the whole thing and decided to relocate the battery up under the tank to solve some of the problem. I had room there and that would enable me to get the side cover area in closer to the bike.I decided to continue the shape of the tank right down onto the panel. Now the shape is continuous from the front to the rear of the bike. It took a while to figure it out but I like the end result. I decided to put in two body mounts here on the panel to hold it solid on the rubber mounts.

Now there was a smoother look and with the different raised pieces it will give it depth when painted. There now that looks better. Its on to the other side to make it the same.

First build the inner skeleton for the individual pieces to be put on. Each one needed to be cut and formed to fit each curve.

Now this side is done as well. So its on to the rear fender area and getting the seat pans finished and the places for them to be inserted into the body.

Miles to go before I sleep.......ha ha
